Commodore’s Corner
Greetings to all South Norwalk Boat Club Captains. Well, as the boats go in and the Marina is filling up, we are finally starting to get some warm weather. I just wish it would stay around for good. This back and forth with the temperatures is no fun for anyone. At least with the glimpses we’ve had we know that summer is just around the corner. With summer being on the horizon, we are well into making our preparations around the Club. The tables are back on the deck, and the tiki area is being set up for the enjoyment of all our members. It won’t be long until we are sitting outside with a cold drink, having a nice meal and enjoying some live entertainment. With warm weather comes all our summer events. The season kicks off with our Commodore’s Dance on May 16th. It is a great evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing. Tickets are still available so make sure to get yours before it sells out. The first Tuesday Night Cookout will be May 19th. Aside from being a good time with great food, we are all hoping for the weather to cooperate to make this the first real outdoor event of our summer season. I know everyone is looking forward to the tiki opening as much as I am. Once we get to Memorial Day Weekend (the unofficial start of summer) our Club calendar will really get going. Commissioning Weekend will start on June 5th with our annual Clam Bake. Hopefully you got your ticket because the event has SOLD OUT. 380 tickets in just 36 hours. I can’t say for sure but that has to be some type of record. After how successful last year’s event was, the team is working hard to make sure this one is even better. Our Commissioning Day ceremony and cookout will then be taking place on June 7th at noon. Commissioning Day is an important day for our Club as it honors our membership, pays tribute to our departed, blesses our fleet, and awards scholarships to our next generation of members. Once our ceremony is complete, the cookout will begin with entertainment. It is a great afternoon to celebrate all things SNBC. Tickets will be available soon so be on the lookout. While we are all looking forward to our Club events, don’t forget about Mother’s Day on May 10th. There will be two seating’s at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Reservations can be made at the bar. With everyone preparing to spend more time on the water, there will be many things going on at the Club when you get back to the dock. We have a full summer of entertainment planned which will be outside as often as it can be. And I know we all want the tiki open as much as possible and we will be working to make that happen. Aside from all our Club events, the summer is also a great time to have your own event in our back room. Nothing says a party like being close to the water so check with the bartenders for availability. Just remember, the Club is here for the benefit of all members so if there is anything you need or have any ideas to make the SNBC even better, never hesitate to reach out. Thank you all and see you around the Club. Best Regards to Everyone,
Jonathan Bove, Commodore
